John Krasinski sobbed while watching Mary Poppins Returns—here’s why

Mary Poppins Returnsstarring Emily Blunt—is mere weeks away, and we already know we’re going to get way emotional when we see it in theaters (apparently the iconic nanny returns to help Michael Banks—who is now a grown widower—take care of his three children). But apparently, actor John Krasinski—aka Emily Blunt’s husband—thought he was above the tears. Turns out he was very, very wrong.

In a November 28th appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the Jack Ryan actor described the first time he saw the finished film at an official screening…and how much he cried.

"The first time I ever saw it, they gave you a tissue box in the screening room," he told Ellen. "I was like, 'Oh that's very nice. I don't have a cold.' And they started screening the movie and 25 minutes into it, I stood up and went to the back of the room. And Emily said, 'Do you not like it? I've never seen this happen.'"

He continued: “I was pushing through all the bagels and muffins that were in the back looking for napkins. I was like, ‘I need anything to stop this crying!’ I was crying so much! I blew through the tissue box in 20 minutes. I had to go to the napkins, and then when I ran out of the napkins, it was all sweater. Just a lot of [wiping my eyes and saying], ‘Oh, it’s so beautiful!’”

Krasinski concluded by saying, “It’s honestly one of the most beautiful films. I think it’s exactly what everybody needs for the holidays. It’s pure joy!”

Okay, we’re 100% sold and basically already standing in line. However, we already know we’ll be an emotional wreck—if only based on the below recently-released clip.
