J.K. Rowling just taught us the right way to disagree on the Internet
Believe it or not, it’s possible to disagree with someone on the Internet without it turning into an all-out war. No, really! J.K. Rowling has the tweet to prove it. The author is a pretty prolific Twitter user and is no stranger to online hate. Despite this, she’s adamant that two people who disagree don’t have to resort to name-calling and, even better, they can be friends.
J.K. Rowling has been vocal about her politics on Twitter for some time, so naturally she’s been the target of some extreme backlash from those who disagree. She shrugs it off like the queen she is, but when one user made a point of disagreeing with her respectfully, she made sure to give it the props it deserved.
And that was that. In this world of anonymous trolling and hasty tweets, it’s easy to forget that it is possible to get along with someone you don’t have the exact same views as. In fact, it’s pretty common. Going on the Internet shouldn’t negate politeness, especially because you might miss out on a friendship with J.K. Rowling.
