JK Rowling just revealed that today is a very special day
Happy September 1st! If you’re heading back to a classroom today, you’re in good company. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy starts today, too.
How could we forget Hogwarts starts up again on September 1st? Probably because none of us got owls over the summer with our new reading list, that’s why. But thankfully, we’ve got JK Rowling to remind us that today, young wizards and witches are heading to Platform 9 3/4 to say goodbye to their families, and hop on the Hogwarts Express. Among them, there is one very special little wizard, who is heading off to school for the first time. Today, September 1st 2015 is James Sirius Potter’s FIRST DAY. How do we know? Rowling told us on Twitter, of course.
If you are trying desperately to figure out this math, and how James is off to school now, let me break it down. James’ dad, Harry Potter, was born in 1980, and started attending Hogwarts in 1991. The Battle of Hogwarts took place in 1998. The epilogue in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows took place 19 years after that, putting it at 2017. When this epilogue takes place, it’s explained that James is the oldest child, and has already been at Hogwarts for a few years when his little brother, Albus, starts.
If James is going into his third year in 2017, that means he would have started on September 1st, 2015. WHICH IS TODAY. Right now, the Potter family is hanging out at King’s Cross Station, getting ready to bid goodbye to their oldest child.
So if you see James today in his Hogwarts robes, shout a quick ‘hello’ but then let the 11-year-old be. He’s got a great big Hogwarts adventure in front of him, so let’s not stress him out too much on the first day of school.
