J.K. Rowling just solved the riddle of how much Hogwarts costs

Last week, we talked about how much it costs to attend Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Mic estimated the cost for one year at Hogwarts, and the total came out to around $43,000 for tuition and the necessary school supplies — like cauldrons and broomsticks. The total was also just for one year, not all seven. How would you like to read the 8th book in the series, Harry Potter and the Student Debt?

Well, we were actually wrong about how many Galleons, Sickles, and Knuts we’re need to save up for a year in Potions class. We don’t need to save up anything, because the best things in life are free, and that includes an edcuation at Hogwars.

Harry Potter mastermind and Twitter champion, J.K. Rowling, got wind of the Internet’s debate about the cost of Hogwarts, and decided to clear everything up once and for all. She tweeted out the answer, and did so in less than 140 characters, because she’s just THAT good.

Even though the Ministry of Magic has done some shady things in the past, it makes me feel so much better knowing that they’re covering everyone’s tuition cost — and that includes all seven Weasley children. So no one even needs to yell, “evanesco, tuition!” AKA, the charm that makes things vanish into thin air.

Now, think of all the things you can do with a ton of Galleons in your pocket, like rounds of Butterbeer for everyone at the Three Broomsticks. Maybe splurge on some tickets to the Quidditch World Cup. Buy that new robe you’ve been eying for quite some time. Or, save it for the next time your flying car needs a tune-up. Don’t go spending all your Knuts in one place.
