J.K. Rowling just revealed her all-time favorite Harry Potter chapter
Do you have a favorite chapter from the Harry Potter series? With thousand of words spanning hundreds of chapters in seven different books, there’s a lot to choose from. But any HP fan who’s read the saga multiple times has one chapter they like more than others for whatever reason. Turns out J. K. Rowling has her own favorite chapter too, and her choice might come as a little bit of a surprise.
In one of the latest Fireside Tweets With J.K. Rowling (still trying to get this name to catch on), she was asked about her favorite chapter. For her, I imagine that kind of question is like being asked, “who’s your favorite HP character?” and that question is like her being asked, “who’s her favorite child?” The answer doesn’t come lightly. But, this is Rowling were talking about, and when asked the question on Twitter she was quick to respond.
So, what is it? Chapter 34, “The Forest Again,” from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
If you need a quick HP refresher, this is the chapter where Harry realizes what he’s got to do to defeat Voldemort. He leaves the Battle of Hogwarts behind and begins his walk into the forest again, like he’s done so many times before (each time disobeying many of Filch’s rules). It’s this time in the Forbidden Forest that Harry comes face-to-face with Voldemort, and we truly learn that neither can live where the other survives.
Did you cry during this chapter? It’s OK if you did, because Harry momentarily DIES. You’re also not alone in crying, because Rowling cried, too. She’s previously admitted to crying when she killed off characters (like Sirius) so it should come as no surprise that she cried writing one last avada kedavra.

As for me, I’m very fond of chapter 36 “The Parting Of The Ways,” from Goblet of Fire. I just like how everyone is together, and working together, and no one is walking off to their inevitable death.
