And this is JK Rowling’s favorite fan theory

Who doesn’t love a good Harry Potter fan theory? It’s what keeps us coming back to the books (and the movies) year after year, because we discover something new every single time we return to Hogwarts. Well, it turns out, Harry Potter fans aren’t the only ones who love fan theories, because the master wizard herself, JK Rowling has a passion for them, too.  In fact, there’s one in particular she loves the most.

Someone recently tweeted the author asking about her favorite fan theory, and with Rowling, ask and we shall receive. Her pick? The Dumbledore as death theory. According to her, it’s “beautiful” and “it fits” and we completely agree.

The backstory behind this theory is that while Harry, Snape, and Voldemort are the three Peverell brothers, Dumbledore is the figure of death that meets with them along life’s path.

As the story of the Deathly Hallows goes, death gives the Invisibility Cloak, the Resurrection Stone, and the Elder Want to the three brothers after they outsmart him. In our HP timeline, Harry’s got the Invisibility Cloak, Snape is still hung up on the memory of Lily Potter, and Voldemort wants to be the most powerful wizard in all the land. And the person at the center of this group? Dumbledore.

The more you think about this theory, the more it makes you want to cry buckets of tears, because it fits so perfectly, and it makes so much sense, and now it’s got Rowling’s seal of approval, too. Kudos to Tumblr user harryjxmespotter for figuring it all out.

While Rowling might not have been writing the story with the intent to make Dumbledore death, sometimes great works of art lend themselves to brilliant interpretations. Now that we’re thinking about it, it’s going to be hard to imagine Dumbledore as anything other than death during Deathly Hallows.

But, remember, the character of death isn’t a bad thing. He’s the old friend waiting for Harry at King’s Cross station.

BRB, crying again.
