J.K. Rowling has her top choice for Dumbledore in the “Fantastic Beasts” sequels

Muggles, ready thyselves. We now know that J.K. Rowling has her pick for Dumbledore in the sequels for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. There hasn’t been an official casting announcement yet. But, our favorite authorknows who will play Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts sequels if she gets her top choice.
We know that Johnny Depp will play Grindelwald in the sequels. We also know that Dumbledore may be openly gay in the films. So basically, the Fantastic Beasts news just keeps getting more exciting.
Rowling revealed that she does have an ideal candidate for the role of Dumbledore: “I have, of course, thought about this. I do have a name. I do have someone in mind, but I can’t say it.”
Of course, this is a little frustrating because WE NEED TO KNOW. Ahem. We’re okay, we’re just impassioned fans of Harry Potter and everything in that world.
Rowling’s reason for not revealing the name of the actor she wants to see play Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts sequels is solid, though: “Because if that person doesn’t get cast, then the person who does get cast will blame me forever for having said it, won’t they? So, I’m going to just keep quiet.”
Okay, you have a point, J.K.
Still, it’s hard not to have any idea who she’s thinking about, especially since such an interesting actor as Depp will be playing Gellert Grindelwald. We know, based on the famous duel between Grindelwald and Dumbledore referenced in the Harry Potter series, that the pair had a contentious relationship. According to Screen Rant Rowling explained:
“I can’t tell you everything I would like to say because this is obviously a five-part story, so there’s lots to unpack in that relationship…. He was always very clever, but we’ll see him at what I think was the formative period of his life. As far as his sexuality is concerned, watch this space.”
Whatever the relationship between Grindelwald and Dumbledore, the actor who plays young Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts sequels will need to be a strong one. We cannot wait to find out who it is, and whether Rowling gets her first choice.
