JK Rowling explains that you already went to Hogwarts
When J.K. Rowling tweets, we all listen. In 140 character or less, she’s either giving us juicy information about the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, or fielding questions about all-things Harry Potter. The other day, though, she gave us something even better. She informed us that we all attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Hold up, I’m pretty sure I’d remember taking Defense Against the Dark Arts, Rowling, and I have no recollection of that. So how could I have attended Hogwarts?
As you can probably imagine, Rowling gets a ton of questions about MIA Hogwarts letters every day from those of us who never actually received one as a child. I imagine she gets about a million of these inquiries every single day. The other day, after another letter question, she gave us the best Hogwarts answer ever. Do you feel all warm and tingly inside now?
Now that she mentions it, I do remember attending Hogwarts. Strangely enough, I was there at the same time as Harry Potter. And so were you! As she clearly explains, we were all there. While we might not have been there in person (you know, to try out for the Quidditch team) we were all there in spirit. Our imagination took us to Hogwarts every time we cracked open up a book, and that’s just as good as the real thing.
Before the London premiere of Harry Potter and the Deahtly Hollows Part 2, Rowling touched on this, too. She told the crowd that, “Whether you come back by page or by the big screen, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home.”
