J.K. Rowling ended the debate about a black Hermione with one perfect tweet

When Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which is currently in previews in London, announced that the actress who plays Hermione is black, everybody everywhere rejoiced. Yay diversity! Yay representation! Yay Noma Dumezweni for landing such an awesome role!

However, for reasons that elude us, there are people out there who aren’t pleased with the casting choice. But we won’t have to hear from them any more, because J.K. Rowling just shut them down today in one simple, perfect Tweet. false

Bye bye, indeed. Because that’s it! Not only is this a fictional play in a fictional universe filled with fictional characters (whose race can be whatever you want it to be!), the race of the actors in the play has no bearing on the books, movies, or even your experience watching it, unless you’re a young black girl finally seeing yourself represented on stage.

People on Twitter are loving this response, and have a few choice words of their own: false false false

Only good things can come from this casting choice because, as J.K. Rowling explained,  Noma is the best actress for the job. We wish her the best of luck in this role of a lifetime, and hope that one day, we can be in the seats to watch her in action!
