J.K. Rowling’s newest project on BBC is everything we ever wanted

Guess what? J.K Rowling is behind a new mystery series coming to the BBC! The series is based on her mystery novels (The Cormoran Strike Novels) she writes under the pen name “Robert Galbraith,” and her production company Brontë Film and Television are producing it. So, basically, Rowling is ALL IN.

The show is to be called The Cormoran Strike Mysteries, according to Entertainment Weekly, which sounds catchy and elusive and everything we would want in TV show. To put that Rowling touch on it, Sarah Phelps (who adapted her novel A Casual Vacancy for the screen), will be writing the series based on the first Galbraith/Rowling book, Cuckoo’s Calling. A second book, called The Silkworm, will be adapted by Ben Richards, who also wrote for MI:5 along with several other mystery-style British TV shows.

Here’s what you need to know. The mystery novels are set in London and follow a war veteran turned private detective named Strike who works with a female assistant, Robin, who is a brilliant forensic scientist. A press release from the BBC explains the plot a bit:

The only bummer here so far: no word on when the series might air in the U.S. We’ll just be waiting patiently over here.
