It’s official: The ’12 days of Harry Potter Christmas’ have begun!
On the first day of Harry Potter Christmas, JK Rowling gave us another glimpse into the magical wizarding world — and there are still even more days to come! This year, Rowling is releasing short Harry Potter “moments” every day from now until Christmas eve, and the first one arrived bright and early this morning. It really is the most wonderful time of the year.
Rowling will release the new Harry Potter content exclusively on the Pottermore website. In order to access it, you’ve got to solve a riddle first (lots of stuff on the site has to be unlocked before you can access to it. Kind of like passing your O.W.L.S.). It’s not a difficult riddle, but it certainly isn’t easy to the casual Harry Potter fan either. Here’s the riddle:
“In a house on Spinner’s End, a meeting takes place, a mother begs help for her son, tears on her face. Agreeing to help, though he doesn’t know how. Which potions master performs an unbreakable vow?”
As soon as you’ve unlocked it, you’ll be treated to a short snippet about the town of Cokeworth, which is where Snape, along with Lily and her muggle sister Petunia, grew up.
As the story explains, it’s also where Uncle Vernon took Harry when they were trying to “evade the letters from Hogwarts.” Vernon assumed it was simply an unmagical place and didn’t think the letters would follow them there! No, instead Hagrid followed them there. In Rowling’s own words:
And yes, it is a very short piece (a few paragraphs) about Cokeworth, but let’s not get greedy with our Harry Potter gifts. There are still eleven more days to go. It’s just the Harry Potter equivalent of ten lords a leaping.
