JJ Abrams just bought 1,500 ‘Star Wars’ fans pizza, so yes he’s on our cool list
You might be drowning in Star Wars news today, but this last little bit of information from the Star Wars Celebration is downright amazing. The 4-day convention draws THOUSANDS of attendees, and just like all other popular conventions, there are long lines. The lines can feel like they go on for days. For some, it’s not out of the question to actually wait in line for days — the convention began Thursday, but fans started lining up Wednesday morning. A little bit crazy? Yeah, but listen, you do whatever you need to for firsthand Star Wars information.
The director of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams (who also directed the first two re-booted Star Trek movies, along with his involvement in TV shows like, LOST, Alias, and Felicity) heard that there were fans camping out for 23-hours. He wanted to show the fans how much he appreciated them, and the fact that they were waiting a ridiculously long time to see him and the rest of the Star Wars cast and crew. So, he ordered pizza all 1,500 fans waiting in line. Amazing.
Slash Film’s Peter Sciretta happened to be waiting in the line when it was announced Wednesday night that pizza was being delivered to the attendees, courtesy of Abrams and producer Kathleen Kennedy. As Sciretta writes, “From what I’ve heard, JJ Abrams heard about the massive line of tireless Star Wars fans and wanted to reward them for their dedication. This was definitely not a publicity stunt or something that was planned in advance. Pizza was ordered, and arrived to the convention center in increments of 25 pies at a time.”
That’s seriously way too kind and thoughtful. Sometimes it’s hard enough ordering pizza for a group of 10, but 1,500? It’s also an incredibly nice gesture, considering these fans were going to wait all night, pizza or no pizza. But with the added bonus of pizza? Sleeping in a convention center overnight now doesn’t seem like such a bad idea.
