Jimmy Kimmel revealed his Oscars hosting pay, and you won’t believe the amount
Hey everyone, let’s talk money. Sure, it’s generally considered gauche to openly discuss how much you earn, but since Jimmy Kimmel revealed his Oscars hosting pay, the cat’s out of the bag, so let’s proceed, shall we? According to Variety, the late night talk show host told the crew of KROQ’s “Kevin & Bean” morning show that he’s being paid $15,000 to host the 2017 Oscars.
Hmm…so, what happens when the Oscars are hosted by a duo? Like, do they split the money and run or do they put a firm foot down and insist on getting $15K each? We probably won’t be hosting any awards ceremonies anytime soon, but that is definitely a question that needs an answer.
Speaking of answers, Kimmel’s not so sure he should’ve disclosed how much cash he’s taking home on Oscars night, but he’s obviously more than happy to collect what amounts to celebrity pocket change. “I think it’s illegal to pay nothing,” Kimmel told KROQ. “I’m not sure I was supposed to reveal this,” he added. “But nobody told me not to. I consider this their fault.”
Oof. That excuse might not fly with the Academy bigwigs, but based on the way Kimmel joked about the selection process, being reprimanded or even replaced over this hilarious faux pas is probably (definitely) out of the question.
“They asked like 14 people and they all said no and then there was me,” Kimmel told the “Kevin & Bean” hosts, adding, “I absolutely was surprised.”
The 89th Academy Awards air on ABC on February 26 and we absolutely cannot wait to see Kimmel earn his keep.
