Jimmy Kimmel shared a photo of son Billy on his first birthday, and his message will make you cry
Time seems to be moving faster than ever. We feel like we just heard about Billy Kimmel’s dramatic birth a mere few weeks ago, but Jimmy Kimmel’s son has already turned a year old. As many will recall, Billy’s birth entailed a significant health scare — he was born with a heart condition called Tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia, and he needed multiple surgeries.
Kimmel then famously shared his family’s experience in a monologue on his show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, imploring the government to make sure that all children are insured. “No parent should ever have to decide if they can afford to save their child’s life,” he said in an emotional plea. Since Billy’s birth, Kimmel has made a point to emphasize the importance of universal health care for children on his show.
And now, Kimmel shared an adorable photo of Billy at his first birthday celebration, and also included a critical message along with it.
"A yr ago today, God gave us this tough little boy," he wrote. "Today, we thank the nurses & doctors at @CedarsSinai & @ChildrensLA who saved his life & those who shared thoughts & prayers. We cannot stay quiet. Please wish Billy happy birthday by REGISTERING TO VOTE! vote.gov."
Kimmel makes such a wonderful point. Things can’t change if we don’t vote for what we believe in. Billy’s life was saved by the wonderful staff at Cedars Sinai and Children’s Hospital, but the sad reality is that not all children are fortunate enough to receive the care he did.
We hope Billy enjoyed his birthday (well, as much as a one-year-old can), and are also thanking Jimmy Kimmel for the crucial reminder.
