This Jimmy Kimmel skit proves a lot of people don’t know that Obamacare & the ACA are the same thing and ugh

Jimmy Kimmel asked Americans if they supported Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act and obviously many Americans had opinions as to which one they prefer. WHICH IS A PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY ARE THE SAME THING. Let us spare you the embarrassment of being outed in a man on the street style interview if you for some reason haven’t realized and be very clear: Obamacare is a colloquial name for the Affordable Care Act. It’s the same thing. We can’t repeat “it’s the same thing” enough. Obamacare and the ACA are the same thing. 

Seriously, if you don’t want your blood pressure to shoot through the roof, look away now.

In (half-hearted) defense of this country, any kind of “reality” segment or show is heavily produced and edited — we’re certain Jimmy Kimmel asked a bunch of Americans who looked at him like he was nuts when he differentiated between the two, and those just didn’t make the final cut because a five minutes video of people going…

…is somewhat less entertaining if Gary Coleman isn’t involved. However, it’s a really upsetting commentary on the state of news (not to mention education) in this country that so many people are so deeply misinformed. Going into a Trump presidency, it’s more important than ever that we all make sure we’re consuming quality journalism, and checking facts before sharing them — and equally important that we encourage our friends and loved ones to do so.

Knowledge is power, people. And not having it will get you on a mortifying segment of a talk show.
