The major way Jimmy Fallon is helping Flint, Michigan

You’ve likely heard about the water crisis in Flint, Michigan. The city of 99,000 residents has been battling a problem with the safe consumption of their drinking water since April 2014, when it became contaminated with lead. This happened after the city switched from a Detroit tap-water supply to a more local one before switching back again this past October.

In fact, Flint’s water crisis has become so serious that President Obama declared a federal state of emergency Jan. 16. According to TIME, FEMA and the National Guard are both pitching in to help Flint residents by providing technical and logistical support, free bottled water and filters, and much more.

And now, celebs are chipping in to do what they can for Flint, too. Our fave late-night host Jimmy Fallon is one of them. Yesterday, he shared on Twitter that he would be donating $10,000 to Flint-based organization The Community Foundation of Greater Flint, encouraging others to do the same.

According to their website, the CFGF “enables people with philanthropic interests to easily and effectively support the issues they care about – immediately or through their will.” In terms of the water crisis, the organization is responding with the Flint Child Health & Development Fund.

“Donating to the Flint Child Health & Development Fund is the single-most important action you can take to ensure long-term change for the better in response to our water crisis,” their website states. “When you make a donation to the Flint Child Health & Development Fund, you can be assured that your gift will be used for critical interventions today and well into the future.”

Fans of Fallon are already showing an amazing response. Twitter account Falpals’ Choice have raised hundreds of dollars so far, and are aiming to raise that number ASAP.
