Jimmy Fallon has canceled “The Tonight Show” tapings for the next week following his mother’s death

After the unfortunate passing of his mother, Jimmy Fallon is canceling tapings of The Tonight Show in order to grieve and spend some time with his family. His mother, Gloria Fallon, died at NYU Langone Medical Center on November 3rd.

Both Jimmy and his sister, a writer, were named after their parents, who raised the two in Saugerties, New York. Jimmy once claimed that both of his parents taped clean versions of Saturday Night Live when him and his sister were growing up. From there, they reenacted the sketches for their friends, which perhaps helped inspire Jimmy to try out for the show. In 1998, he was added to the cast and quickly became a fan favorite, thus jumpstarting his lucrative career.

The host canceled a taping of The Tonight Show on November 2nd, a day before his mother passed away, and Deadline has reported that he’ll be taking a week off from the show.  A representative for his family stated that “Jimmy was at his mother’s bedside, along with her loved ones, when she passed away at NYU Langone Medical Center in NYC. Our prayers go out to Jimmy and his family as they go through this tough time.”

NBC is set to air reruns of The Tonight Show between November 6th and November 10th.

Jimmy stated to the Associated Press that he had lost his “biggest fan.” Other celebrities have been quick to send well-wishes and heartfelt messages to him during this tough time.

It’s never easy to lose a loved one, and we hope that Jimmy takes all of the time he needs to mourn such a devastating loss.
