Jim Carrey gave a hilariously awkward interview at NYFW, and alrighty then

When you think of New York Fashion Week, you probably don’t think of Jim Carrey. And apparently, he isn’t a big fan of the event either. Carrey gave a hilariously awkward interview at an NYFW party on Friday night thrown by Harper’s Bazaar, and we have questions.

It was the kind of interview that makes you question why he even bothered showing up to NYFW.

"There's no meaning to any of this," Carrey bluntly told E! News. "So I wanted to find the most meaningless thing that I could come to and join and here I am. You gotta admit it's pretty meaningless."

Hmm. To quote Jim Carrey himself: Alrighty then.

The New York Fashion Week party was certainly a star-studded event. Other celebrities in attendance included Selena Gomez, Kim Kardashian West, Kendall Jenner, and Nicki Minaj. But Carrey said he didn’t even connect with the theme of the event: Harper’s Bazaar Celebrates ICONS by Carine Roitfeld.

"That is the absolute the lowest aiming possibility we could come up with. I don't believe in icons, I don't believe in personalities. I believe that peace lies beyond personalities, beyond invention and disguise, beyond the red 'S' you wear on your chest, that makes bullets bounce off."

"I didn't get dressed up," Carrey added. "There is no me. There's just things happening."

The whole thing was pretty awkward. Interviewer Catt Sadler handled it as best she could. At the end, Carrey just touched her shoulders and walks off.

Here’s the bizarre interview in full.

In fairness, Carrey has had a rough time as of late.

In 2015, his girlfriend Cathriona White died by suicide, and her family sued him for her wrongful death. He could go to trial next year.

"The fact is, going down the river of sorrow and suffering is the way to freedom," Carrey said candidly in September. "I’ve gone through it and I’m telling you, you don’t survive it. You don’t come out of it on the other side. You might come out of it with a body, but there’s no you attached to it."

It sounds like the actor is working through some tough circumstances. We wish him the best — but maybe he should sit out next year’s NYFW parties.
