Jessie James Decker posed with a glass of wine while breastfeeding, and the mommy shamers came out in full force

Famous and non-famous parents alike face mommy-shaming more than ever now that online comments allow anyone and everyone to share their opinions. It’s one of the worst parts of social media, especially for celebrities, who seem to face mommy shaming every single time they post, well, anything related to their children.

The latest celeb to experience the wrath of the mommy police is none other than Jessie James Decker, who recently welcomed her third child, Forrest Bradley, with husband Eric Decker. The singer-songwriter took to Instagram to post a relaxed photo of herself breastfeeding her little one, enjoying a chill moment on an oversized chair. In the photo, James Decker is holding what appears to be a full glass of wine, and the caption reads, “Cheers bitches.”

This immediately sparked the ire of many commenters, who chided James Decker for drinking alcohol while breastfeeding. The topic is certainly one that invites debate, but recent research suggests that an occasional alcoholic drink while breastfeeding is perfectly safe for Mom and baby. And while the Centers for Disease Control notes that “not drinking alcohol is the safest option for breastfeeding mothers,” they add that “generally, moderate alcohol consumption by a breastfeeding mother (up to one standard drink per day) is not known to be harmful to the infant, especially if the mother waits at least two hours after a single drink before nursing.”

It’s also important to note that we don’t even know if the cup she’s holding contains alcohol. But even if she did enjoy a glass of wine, it’s not anyone’s place to judge, since she likely knows what’s best for both her baby and her body.

It’s so easy to judge without knowing the full story, and it’s about time we give all parents a rest when it comes to making decisions for themselves and their little ones. Because parenting is hard enough without constant unsolicited criticism.
