Jessica Lowndes and Jon Lovitz pulled off a spectacular April Fools’ Day prank

The world was pretty taken aback when former 90210 star and pop singer Jessica Lowndes, 27, announced her engagement to 58-year-old comedian Jon Lovitz over the weekend. Did anyone even know these two were dating?! However, it turns out the engagement news and gushy posts on social media about their L-U-V were all just one big prank to promote Jessica’s new music video. April Fools’! Early April Fools’, that is.

Jon and Jessica had been working on the prank for months, with Jessica teasing her fans on Instagram with captions hinting at a “new man in [her] life.” People started to catch on to the identity of her new “love” after she posted a picture of a bed adorned with rose petals and the caption “I LOVE itz.”

She posted videos hinting that she’s fallen deeply in ~love~. . .

. . . selfies of herself in his car. . .

. . . quotes about “old cows” who like to “eat young grass” (with the caption “And I love me some old cows,” hinting at their age difference):

She even posted a picture of a Snap with an older hand on her thigh, captioning it, “His hands are wise and tell a thousand stories. . . #smitten #hatersgonnahate”.

This past weekend, she finally posted the kicker: She’s engaged —with a totally gorgeous ring!

And just to really let the prank sink in, Jessica posted a video of herself laying in bed. . . with the voice of the cameraman clearly being Jon Lovitz. “When bae films you waking up in the morning,” she wrote.

The Internet was very, very confused, to say the least.

However, it turns out that Chrissy Teigen was right — Jessica Lowndes and Jon Lovitz were trolling us the entire time. “I know it’s still the last week of March, but is it too early to say ‘April fools’?” Jessica said in an Instagram video posted yesterday before panning the camera to show scenes from her new music video “Deja Vu (remix).”

That’s right — we all got totally pranked in an early April Fools’ joke in promotion of Jessica’s latest music video, which actually features Jon Lovitz. It’s clear that many of the snapshots and videos posted by Jessica over the last week were taken during the filming of the video — not, you know, from an actual relationship.
