Jessica Lange says beauty standards at the Oscars have changed in this major way

It’s one of our favorite high-fashion events of the year, and we eagerly await the stunning couture looks on the Oscar red carpet every single time. But veteran actress Jessica Lange just opened up about the way Oscar-night style used to be very different.
In a new interview with AARP The Magazine, Lange says the biggest night of the year in film wasn’t always the ultra-glamorous event it is today. Lange has had a truly impressive career spanning fifty (!!) years, and she’s won countless awards and accolades — so she would know!
Of her first Oscar win, Lange says, "Tootsie turned out to be the best film I ever made. And to win my first Oscar for it was thrilling, not terrifying, the way it might be today. The awards were more casual then. You did your own hair; you did your own makeup. It wasn’t the fashion event of the season."
It seems completely bonkers to imagine A-list celebrities today doing their own hair and makeup for such a prestigious awards ceremony, but we now kinda wish we could see what a more low-key Oscars night would look like. Don’t get us wrong — we love seeing celebrities’ behind-the-scenes Instagram photos, glam squad in tow, but there’s something distinctly cool about the thought of celebs doing it all themselves.
Lange has been nominated for six Oscars and has won twice, first in 1982 for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Tootsie, and then in 1994 for Best Actress for her role in Blue Sky (not too shabby!). And of course, she can currently be seen in an array of Ryan Murphy television projects, for which the world is #blessed.
