Expect to see more of your favorite sarcastic superheroine — Netflix renewed Jessica Jones for Season 3
In a no-brainer move from Netflix, Jessica Jones has officially been renewed for Season 3! Season 2 of the critically acclaimed hit Marvel series debuted just last month, and while the streaming platform doesn’t release viewership data, it was as clear as day that fans wanted more Jessica Jones.
The second season of the series, which stars Krysten Ritter as the titular superhero, saw Jessica trying to move forward with her life after killing her former abuser and rapist Kilgrave (David Tennant) at the end of Season 1. But as Jessica attempted to regain a sense of normalcy in her life — well, as much normalcy as a superhero can have — she’s forced to look back at her own painful history, and revisits the origins of her superpowers.
Considering the explosive finale saw Jessica’s newly rediscovered mom, who was long thought to be dead, killed by her best friend and foster-sister Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor), we need to know what’s going to happen next!
While Jessica Jones is a roller-coaster of a superhero series, it’s also not afraid to get very real on a number of important topics.
The series has been widely praised for its handling of a number of sensitive subjects, including post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and sexual assault — which it’s continued to unpack in the second season.
But in addition to being incredibly feminist on-screen, it also brings that feminism behind-the-scenes, with women making up a large part of the show’s creative force. Not only were the majority of Season 2 episodes written by women, but every single episode was directed by a woman.

Jessica Jones also stars Carrie-Anne Moss, Eka Darville, J.R. Ramirez, Terry Chen, Leah Gibson, and Janet McTeer. While Netflix hasn’t announced a release date for the third season, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a 2019 return!
