Jessica Chastain disagreed with someone in her Instagram comments — and then donated $2,000 to her fertility treatment
International Women’s Day was an occasion to celebrate inspirational women, reflect on limiting gender norms, and teach the next generation that women can do anything if they’re actually given a chance. It was also a time for women to show their love and support for other women, and Jessica Chastain proved that in the most compassionate, lovely way. Namely, when an Instagram follower took issue with Chastain’s pro-choice stance on abortion, the actress used the comment as an opportunity to build a bridge — and an opportunity to help a fellow woman in need.
The sweet exchange first came about when Jessica Chastain posted a photo on Instagram of herself in a tee that reads “We Should All Be Feminists.” (Proceeds for the pricey shirt — $710 — go to Rihanna’s The Clara Lionel Foundation.) She captioned the pic: “FEMINISM: the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes #happyinternationalwomensday.”
While the post got plenty of love, one follower commented with a pointed reference to the issue of abortion. “Yes feminist that believe in God and stand up for The Unborn,” user Karin Schulz wrote. “I would be for that kind of feminist.”
Instead of ignoring the remark or starting a political argument, Chastain wrote back: “Yes you can decide what is right for you,” she said. “I am pro-choice and I believe that everyone has the right to make their own decision.”

But that wasn’t the end of Jessica Chastain and Karin Schulz’s discussion.
Chastain did a little internet digging and found that Schulz had linked to a GoFundMe page in her Instagram bio to raise money for treatments to help with her and her husband’s struggles with fertility. So, Chastain donated $2,000. “My eyes filled with tears as I read this, dear Karin,” Chastain wrote about Schulz’s page in a follow-up comment on Instagram. “I have such belief in your dream. Don’t give up my sister. It’s in your destiny.”
Destiny, it seems, played a hand in connecting these two women, too. Schulz expressed her gratitude and told Chastain “We do agree on more than we disagree.” The internet, understandably, LOVED it.
Consider our faith in humanity officially restored.
