Jessica Alba explains what beauty truly means to her daughters

Jessica Alba, who you may recognize from Sin City or Fantastic Four, is also an entrepreneur who co-founded The Honest Company (cleaning products made with non-toxic, more natural ingredients) and a mom. While she’s super busy BASICALLY being Super Woman, she always has time to relay some very important wisdom to her daughters Honor and Haven, six and three years old, respectively.

She told Natural Health magazine this month, “Growing up, whenever I was bullied, my mom would say, ‘You’re a beautiful girl. They’re just jealous.’ It never helped. I want my girls to know that beauty is being kind. . .beauty is helping people. . .beauty is humility.” We agree completely. Beauty is not a competition —it’s about being the best person you can be.

Instead of pushing her girls to act or model, Alba wants them to work with her at The Honest Company (when they grow up, of course!). She told Entertainment Tonight, “I really am building The Honest Company for them.” However, even if her little gals aren’t interested in the cleaning product industry, she hopes that they see her determination and hard work, and are influenced to become leaders and lady bosses themselves.

Alba says, “I hope they’re inspired to be entrepreneurs and to really push the envelope on you know what they can do with their life and how they can make an impact.”

It’s so amazingly refreshing to see a strong, innovative, and talented woman like Jessica Alba set such a wonderful example for not only her daughters, but for all the parents who want their daughters (and sons!) to know that “beauty” is really, truly on the inside, and that beauty is the goodness within us all. AND that we need to use that goodness to create, and to take charge, and make a difference. So well said, Jessica Alba!
