Jesse Williams is reportedly divorcing his wife, and Twitter cannot handle it
An alleged celebrity split has the internet in a major uproar. According to Us Weekly, Jesse Williams is reportedly divorcing his wife of five years. The 35-year-old Grey’s Anatomy star and activist filed for divorce from Aryn Drake-Lee on April 11, People reports, noting that the split between the pair is amicable.
Williams married Drake-Lee, a real estate broker, in September of 2012 after five years of dating. At the time, he was employed as a New York school teacher. The couple are the parents of a 3-year-old daughter and an 18-month-old son. E! reports that Williams is seeking joint legal and physical custody of their children.
Seeing as how divorces are one of the most difficult life changes to navigate, we’re hoping both parties can get through this in the most seamless way possible. At the moment, though, we’re particularly concerned about Williams’ fans, who had some extremely strong reactions to the news on Twitter.
Some are just flat-out heartbroken and aghast.

Sheesh, y’all. Over the years we’ve become huge fans of Williams outside of the acting arena, as he’s gained so much admiration for speaking out on social injustices, encouraging Americans to vote and generally being unafraid to speak some uncomfortable truths.
Ugh, this totally sucks. Our hearts go out to both Williams and Drake-Lee. We’re sending them all the healing vibes and hope they can move on in a way that best suits them and their children.
