Jerry Seinfeld finds out for us all that lemonade stands are illegal

Jerry Seinfeld got up in a little bit of legal drama. And no, not because of Kramer’s shenanigans. Nah, this is the real-life Jerry Seinfeld, but the situation sounds like it came straight out of a sitcom. . . and it all had to do with a lemonade stand.

Jerry, his wife Jessica, and his son Julian were running a lemonade stand in their neighborhood in East Hampton, NY trying to raise money for charity when the police arrived. Yep, according to The East Hampton Press, it turns out that a neighbor had called the fuzz because of “illegally parked cars.” When the police showed up, they shut it down, claiming that lemonade stands aren’t allowed to be run on village property. Um, that’s news to those of us who ran lemonade joints of our own back in the day. . . ah, the memories.

Last week, Jessica posted a pic of Jerry, Julian, and two of Julian’s friends, all grinning with their hands on their heads by the stand. “Lemonade dreams crushed by local neighbor but not before raising lots of money for @loverecycled,” Jessica wrote in the caption. “Thanks to all of our customers and big tippers!. . . thanks Xander and Jaden for crushing it today with Julian and Jerry.”

The money was being raised for Jessica’s charity, Baby Buggy, a non-profit that provides clothing, gear, and services to families in need. But unfortunately, according to the cops, the village forbids “all forms of peddling” on the property. No lemonade for you!

We’re bummed that the lemonade stand (the proceeds of which were going to a fabulous cause!) was shut down for a pretty ridiculous reason. Selling lemonade for charity is such a wonderful way to spend a summer, and it feels a little cruel to rain on their parade for legal technicalities. That said, we can’t help but giggle, because it seems Jerry has a real life Newman. Those pesky neighbors!
