Jeremy Renner is all of us as he pleads to bring Spider-Man back to the Avengers
Jeremy Renner has weighed in on Spider-Man dispute, asking for the beloved superhero to be returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe following news that Sony Pictures decided to part ways with Marvel and Disney Studios. On Tuesday, August 20th, Deadline exclusively reported that negotiations between the studios regarding future Spider-Man films were unsuccessful, sending fans into a frenzy. Everyone was left wondering what this means for Tom Holland and the franchise moving forward, including Renner who is out here trying to single-handedly save Spider-Man.
The actor, who has played Hawkeye in the MCU since 2011’s Thor, took to social media to express his disappointment and plead with Sony to give Spider-Man back, especially because he was such an integral part of the Avengers in the last few years.
"Hey @sonypictures we want Spider-Man back to @therealstanlee and @marvel please, thank you #congrats #spidermanrocks #please," he wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of his character.
He’s not the only celebrity to comment on the deal. On Twitter, Ryan Reynolds reacted to the news by responding to a fan asking about a Spider-Man/Deadpool crossover.
You can. But you can only see it in my heart.

Meanwhile, Stan Lee’s daughter, Joan Celia (JC), has also spoken out about the situation. But in a surprising statement to TMZ, she’s siding with Sony and claiming her dad, who co-created Spider-Man, would be happy with the studio’s decision.
"Whether it’s Sony or someone else’s, the continued evolution of Stan’s characters and his legacy deserves multiple points of view," she said. "When my father died, no one from Marvel or Disney reached out to me. From day one, they have commoditized my father’s work and never shown him or his legacy any respect or decency. In the end, no one could have treated my father worse than Marvel and Disney’s executives."
Though Spider-Man’s future hangs in the balance, at least fans can find some comfort knowing there are two more movies in the works. Now, if only Thanos could snap his fingers and make all this drama go away.
