Jennifer Lopez’s intense new movie role might be her grittiest project yet

Jennifer Lopez is constantly putting in work. Seriously, I’m beginning to wonder if she secretly has a clone or an equally talented twin sister who splits her ginormous workload. That’s the only feasible explanation I have for how she manages to simultaneously star in a bazillion commercials and TV series, raise two children, release music and snap selfies with Lin-Manuel Miranda. Clearly, there is nothing J. Lo can’t do, up to and including playing a grimy Colombian drug lord on TV.
Yes, you read right. Billboard reports Lopez will play notorious Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco in an upcoming HBO film. And since she’s obviously the queen of multi-tasking, Lopez will also take on the role of executive producer.
“I’ve been fascinated by the life of this corrupt and complicated woman for many years,” Lopez said of the film’s subject. “The idea of teaming with HBO felt like the perfect fit for finally bringing Griselda’s story to life.”
For those unfamiliar with Blanco, her extensive involvement in drug trafficking during the ’70s and ’80s earned her nicknames like “Queen of Cocaine” and “Cocaine Godmother.” If she sounds scary AF, that’s because she was. Before she was shot dead in 2012, she was suspected of ordering dozens of murders and personally killing one of her three husbands.
I’m hoping Lopez will give us all the goosies with what is sure to be a chilling portrayal, even the idea of her playing this role still lowkey gives me the creeps.
