Just reminiscing on Jennifer Lawrence’s red hot Oscar debut in 2011
Every year when the Oscars come around we are so excited to not only see who takes away an award, but most importantly who lands on the best dressed list. So it is no surprise that Jennifer Lawrence’s first ever Oscar appearance is still a fan favorite! Seriously who doesn’t love a red Calvin Klein dress?!
Back in 2011, before Jennifer Lawrence was the super star that we know today, she was a rookie when it came to the awards season. At the time, she was nominated for best performance by an actress in a leading role for her portrayal of Ree in Winter’s Bone. Although this was her first time ever being nominated by the Academy, as well as the fact that it was her first time on the Oscar carpet, she stunned like a seasoned veteran in a fitted Calvin Klein Collection red dress designed by Francisco Costa.
Although the look was quite understated compared to her other Oscar dresses, especially since now Lawrence is a Dior princess, but it was perfect for her first Oscar red carpet. We will always be obsessed with her current Dior pieces, but as a first time nominee this dress makes the perfect statement. It’s endearing in its simplicity, but due to the fact that is so classic it creates a lasting impression. According to an interview Lawrence gave on the carpet back then, that is the exact impression her team was going for.
"As a newbie it’s incredibly overwhelming and a proud moment."
If you’re wondering how you can recreate the look, you’re in luck! Rent the Runway carries the dress and although it retails for over $2,000, you can rent it for a cool $310. Can you say mega bargain or what? Although the item is currently unavailable we are hoping it comes back onto the site.
We think everyone deserves to be on the best dressed list no matter what occasion.
