Jennifer Lawrence says a producer took nude photos of her to “inspire” her to lose weight

If one thing has become clear this past week, it’s that women everywhere are regularly victims of degradation (though this isn’t exactly news to most women). And in yet another disturbing story, we just learned that a producer made Jennifer Lawrence participate in a “nude line-up,” which entailed her standing next to “thinner” girls as an attempt to shame her into losing 15 pounds. Lawrence was afraid to lose out on the role, especially since she heard the actress who had the role before her was fired for not losing the weight.

Lawrence shared the experience at Elle’s Women in Hollywood event sponsored by Calvin Klein and L’Oréal Paris. The 27-year-old actress said this happened when she was “much younger.”

"During this time a female producer had me do a nude line-up with about five women who were much, much, thinner than me,"  Lawrence recalled. "We are stood side-by-side with only tape on covering our privates. After that degrading and humiliating line-up, the female producer told me I should use the naked photos of myself as inspiration for my diet."

The producer wanted Lawrence to lose the weight in two weeks — which is not only offensive, but extremely unhealthy. Lawrence said she tried to stand up for herself by talking to another producer, but unfortunately, he took a terrible situation and made it even worse.

"He said he didn’t know why everyone thought I was so fat, he thought I was ‘perfectly f***able.'" Lawrence said.

The situation made the actress feel “trapped,” because she felt like she had to shrug off the abuse if she wanted to keep her job — a position that far too many women find themselves in.

While we’re heartbroken that this happened to Lawrence, we’re so glad she’s shining a light on this reprehensible behavior and helping to continue this crucial conversation. To any and all humans who have been harassed, abused, or degraded, please know that we’re listening, and we stand with you.
