Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro share hilarious love for each other at GLAAD Media Awards
Last night, Robert De Niro was honored with GLAAD’s Excellence in Media Award at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. And he was celebrated in great company — Jennifer Lawrence gave a funny, serious, moving, and heartwarming speech honoring the actor.
“As one of the greatest actors who’s ever lived, I can learn a lot from him, but the most important thing that he’s taught all of us is acceptance. Bob is the kindest person I’ve ever met,” J.Law said. “His heart is so giving and with his own quiet strength it’s no wonder that this man, and the incredible organization that is GLAAD, would come together tonight.”
Jennifer cited his numerous efforts through the years on behalf of LGBT rights. De Niro is an outspoken advocate of gay rights and marriage, founded the Tribeca Film Festival to help share diverse creative viewpoints, and created the documentary Remembering the Artist: Robert De Niro Sr. in honor of his father, a man who waited until later in life to live authentically as a gay man.
“You are wise, you are loving, and the world is truly better because of you,” Jennifer said before calling him up to receive his award.
It’s a touching tribute to one of the greatest actors—and advocates—of all time. But of course, the moment wasn’t without its unexpected quirks and remarks from Jennifer, including a quick teleprompter snafu.
