The JOYFUL reason why Jennifer Lawrence wasn’t at the Oscars
If you watched the Oscars this last Sunday, you might have noticed one very lovable celeb wasn’t on the red carpet. Our collective BFF Jennifer Lawrence, who has been known to wax poetic about McDonald’s french fries, photobomb pictures, and give super wonderful speeches and interviews, didn’t attend the Oscars. But she had a really, really good excuse: She was on set for her new movie, Joy (that will be her third collab with director David O. Russell!) in Boston.
Joy is about the life and times of Joy Mangano (the Miracle Mop inventor), who struggled as a poor, single mom before she became a mop mogul. Right now it’s rumored to possibly also feature Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper, and has been described as a “departure,” and “unexpected movie,” according to Collider.
David O. Russell told The Playlist that the new film is “set in ’80s and ’90s, but I’m going to take a different approach musically than I’ve ever taken before. I aspire to make an unexpected movie, both for myself and for Jennifer. It’s about a woman. . .what’s inside her.”
While we missed Jennifer’s red carpet shenanigans, we’re so excited for this female-driven film which sounds so rad and empowering.
