Jennifer Lawrence is officially leaving the ‘X-Men’ franchise — but here are four new movies you can see her in soon
Brace yourself for some sads, fellow nerds. Our most beloved pizza connoisseur and talented actress Jennifer Lawrence is reportedly leaving the X-Men franchise after Apocalypse the forthcoming addition to the reboot, which means this May will be the very last time you get to see J-Law painted bluer than a Smurf in theaters. There was no beating around the bush on this one, either — she spoke with MTV News on the red carpet premiere of her recent film Serena, saying, “It is my last one, actually,” about her role as Mystique.
So what exactly does that mean for her character? Unfortunately, it’s still anybody’s guess. (WARNING: Spoiler alert for the X-Men franchise, starting right now.) After Days Of Future Past ended with a completely rebooted the timeline, some of her fellow mutants (in particular Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Storm) were re-cast with younger counterparts. On the other hand, Jennifer is hardly pushing “old” by anyone’s standards in Hollywood, so this could also point to the end of Mystique in this franchise, putting an end to any and all rumors of the Mystique spin-off fans were hoping for.
So how do we deal with our sads? Obviously, our first move should be to order delivery pizza in J-Law’s good name. Second, take a moment to have some mad respect for those girl’s pores, which are probably super excited to BREATHE again now that she’s not gonna be decked out in several hours worth of paint all day. And third, take heart in remembering that although this is the last we will see of Mystique, we still have plenty of blockbusters featuring Jennifer Lawrence that will feed the obsession with her that somehow grows stronger every day. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015)
I can’t even remember a time in my life when I wasn’t waiting for this movie. I feel like it was yesterday I was reading on the interwebs that J Law was cast as Katniss, and now all these years later I am every bit as impatient for the next installment as I was back then. Some things never change (like J-Law’s total butt kickery in this series, for instance).
Joy (2015)
I’m pretty sure Jennifer Lawrence has some kind of clause on all contracts saying she can only do movies if she stars in one alongside Bradley Cooper at least once a year. Or at least I hope there is such a clause, because otherwise this is straight up getting ridonkulous (not that any of us mind, TBH). He will be co-starring in this movie that “Follows a family across four generations and the woman who rises to become founder and matriarch of a powerful family business dynasty,” according to IMDB. She’ll be playing Joy Mangano, a struggling single mother who went on to become one of the country’s top entrepreneurs.
X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)
Sounds so cheerful, right? But seriously, something tells me that they are not going to let this character go without one heck of an epic good-bye, whether or not they decide to off her.
It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War (2017)
The movie will center around the story of wartime photographer Lynsey Addario, who was held captive by the Libyan army in March 2011. She recently published an autobiography, “It’s What I Do,” which will be the basis for the movie, starring Jennifer Lawrence as Addario. It’ll be a huge departure from the blockbuster movies she’s become known for, back to a gritty Winter’s Bone-esque role that put her on the map in the first place.
So you see, guys, we won’t be suffering any major Jen deficits with or without X-Men. We’ll all get through this. It’ll be OK. (Pass me another slice of pizza, though, just to make sure.)
