Here’s who inspired Jennifer Lawrence to speak out about Hollywood’s wage gap

Our currently favorite kickass “YAS QUEEN” is Jennifer Lawrence. Why? Not only does she portray one of our favorite female heroines, Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games movies, but Lawrence has also started an amazing crusade against the gender wage gap in Hollywood, calling out the fact that she is paid considerably less than her male costars. Lawrence recently penned a beautiful and raw essay in Lena Dunham’s newsletter, Lenny, explaining her reasons for speaking up and fighting for equal pay. Now, she’s told reporters that she was inspired to do so by one very awesome lady: Katniss.

Yes, Lawrence loves Katniss as much as we all do. Having played her through four movies now, Lawrence can’t help but admit she’s totally inspired by the Girl On Fire.

The press tour for Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 is already underway, and recently Lawrence talked to reporters in Berlin about the movie. Her essay in Lenny also came up, since clearly by now the WORLD has read it. One reporter asked if Katniss “had motivated her to address the issue” about the wage gap, to which Lawrence responded, according to Reuters, with an awesome, YES, explaining:

Like you need a Katniss recap, but she single handedly ignites a revolution in Panem and refuses to back down until she sees change. Kinda like what Lawrence is doing right now with the wage gap. She also told reporters that she felt the need to portray Katniss as to “a warrior right away, I wanted her to want to be a leader.”

It’s safe to say that she succeeded in portraying that on-screen. Now, guess you could say art is imitating life, and Lawrence just happens to be doing it IRL, too. Thank you for everything, Katniss. Image via Lionsgate
