Jennifer Lawrence has some bad news about the alleged ‘Hunger Games’ prequel
If you’re a fan of the Hunger Games movies, then you probably know that there’s been a lot of talk about potential future Hunger Games spin-offs. The movies might be done, but that doesn’t mean we can’t go back to the Arena — there are 73 other annual Hunger Games for us to explore. Just last week, the studio behind the movies, Lionsgate, went on the record and explained that the plan is for the franchise to “live on and on” exploring the earlier (or even later) lives of our favorite characters.
But not so fast, says Katniss Everdeen.
Obviously wherever Hunger Games go, we want Jennifer Lawrence to go, too. But the actress behind our favorite District 12 Tribute-turned-hero isn’t ready to head back to Panem. In fact, she thinks it’s too early for any of us to head back.
Talking to Variety at the premiere of her newest movie, Joy, Lawrence explained that should more Hunger Games movies happen, she won’t be joining them (pause for a brief weeping session).
“I wouldn’t be involved,” she told Variety. Which sounds pretty shut and closed. But she then offers up why she’d opt out of future movies. Simply stating, “it’s too soon. They’ve got to let the body get cold, in my opinion.”
On one hand, yes, she’s right, maybe it is too soon for more Hunger Games movies. But the on the other hand, it’s almost been a month since Mockingjay Part 2 opened and like, we already need more.
The hard truth is that if these Hunger Games movies happen in the near future, they’ll (probably) be without our Katniss. Let’s not rule out that maybe later on down the road, after an approved amount of time has passed, per Lawrence, she’ll appear again. It just wouldn’t be Panem without her.
