Today Jennifer Lawrence Somehow Made Us Love Her Even More

There’s so much to love about actress Jennifer Lawrence, but is her shtick getting old?

The 23-year-old Kentucky native is afraid so, according to a new interview with Marie Claire. The Hunger Games star tells the publication that she’s aware of her widespread popularity, which might turn out to be too much of a good thing, “Nobody can stay beloved forever. I never believed it, the whole time. I was like, just wait: People are going to get sick of me.”

Aw, don’t say that! But Lawrence, who is known to be a prankster at awards ceremonies and A-list gatherings, understands that many folks find her quips endearing but fears overexposure and appearing clownish all the time could ultimately ruin her image:

“My picture is everywhere, my interviews are everywhere; I’m way too annoying because I get on red carpets and I’m really hyper, most likely because I’ve been drinking, and I can’t not photobomb somebody if it’s a good opportunity. But, it’s something I always tell myself: ‘You need to calm the f— down. You don’t want to constantly be a GIF.”

As pointed out by our pals at Refinery 29, J-Law has some hilarious GIFs, which make up for the fact that none of us can attend these events alongside her. The funny moving pictures will just have to do. After Lawrence tripped at the Oscars for the second year in a row, fellow winner Jared Leto questioned whether she’s putting on an act. Lawrence sees why he would think that, but insists her clumsiness is real and not orchestrated.

“I’m trying to do the right thing, waving to the fans, trying to be nice, and there’s a traffic cone,” she continued. “The second I hit it, I was laughing, but on the inside I was like, ‘You’re f**ked. They’re totally going to think this is an act.’ If I were Jared Leto, I would completely agree. But, trust me, if I was going to plan it, I would have done it at the Golden Globes or the SAGs. I would have never done it at two Oscars in a row. I watch Homeland — I’m craftier than that!”

We have no doubts about her craftiness, and it helps that her beau Nicholas Hoult can attest to her down-to-earth attitude. On his lady’s explosive success in recent years, he said, “I am just kind of her bystander in many ways. It is well-deserved for her. I haven’t really seen any change in her.”

Boyfriends don’t lie, and J-Law doesn’t either. She’s self-aware enough to realize the fame and celebration could fade once another It Girl comes along and starts goofing off at celebrity parties, and she knows that her antics may not always be appreciated.

I am not sick of Lawrence, but the fact that she brought this up reiterates how cool she really is. In Hollywood, you can be adored one minute and the laughingstock of the web the next, and most of us are lucky enough to never know what that transition feels like. Rather than label the naysayers as jealous haters who want to bring her down, which would of course be understandable, she recognizes how the Internet can amplify a celebrity’s presence, and she’s doing what she can to keep that in check before driving us all nuts.

Don’t change, J-Law. The red carpet needs more photobombing and jokesters to remind everyone that the entertainment industry shouldn’t take itself so seriously. Movies are meant to entertain, and you’re more than doing your part to make that happen.
