Jennifer Lawrence auditioned to play Bella Swan and other ways the ‘Twilight’ cast was almost way different
When you think of Twilight, you think of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. You can’t help it. They are Bella and Edward! So it’s pretty hard to image that anyone else could have played those roles — but they could have. Tons of amazing actors and actresses auditioned to play the characters in Stephenie Meyer’s hit series, and some of them you definitely wouldn’t expect.
Let’s start with Bella. Did you know that America’s sweetheart Jennifer Lawrence almost nabbed the role? Although, she’s not sure she could have handled how crazy it was.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s little sister also could have been our Bella, but Michelle Tractenberg’s hectic schedule prevented her from being able to commit to the project. Emily Browning and Lily Collins were two other not-so-surprising options. Browning felt similarly to Lawrence:
Can you picture Dave Franco as Edward? ‘Cause that was almost a thing — except Franco was already “in over his head” during that stage of his acting career. That’s vague, but it must have been fate because obviously Pattinson went on to make the role iconic.
There were some lesser-known Edward options, like Dustin Milligan and Shiloh Fernandez. Even Jamie Campbell Bower, who ended up playing Caius, wanted a bit of the Edward-goodness, telling Vulture:
Michael Copon, a Taylor Lautner look-a-like, understandably almost got the role of Jacob. Then there’s other fun facts, like Leah Clearwater was almost played by Vanessa Hudgens, and Jane was almost played by Lucy Hale!
We’re sure these actors would have been awesome, but we’re pretty happy with the ones we got, even if their Twilight days are behind them!
