Jennifer Aniston Talks Loving Yourself, Choosing Happiness and Cleaning Up “All of the Sh*t”

From the mouth of the woman who never ages, comes a little learned wisdom through some conversation with a co-star. At 44, Jennifer Aniston is fresh-faced and radiant as ever on the September issue of Glamour in a slinky, silk Narciso Rodriguez slip dress. Jason Sudeikis, Aniston’s three-time co-star and partner in crime in this month’s We’re the Millers, took a shot at getting some sound bites out of the goldie-locked actress — and the result was surprisingly insightful.

When Sudeikis asked Aniston what she’d tell her younger self, she had a few choice words looking back at the last several decades.

On her teenage years:

“Don’t try so hard. Pay attention. Do your homework. Go to class.”

On her twenties:

“Not to fret so much. I did OK in my twenties.”

On her thirties (aka: the Brad Pitt divorce years):

“Thirties. Thirties. Go to therapy. Clean up all of the sh*t. Clean up all of the toxins and the noise. Understand who you are. Educate yourself on the self.”

Sudeikis replies, “Yeah. Because at that point, anything that you thought was just a habit is actually you.”

“[But] you can undo a lot of things,” Aniston continues. “If you’re not happy, you can become happy. Happiness is a choice. That’s the thing I really feel.”

Aniston has simultaneously been both America’s sweetheart and America’s punching bag since she and Pitt split, with tabloids ecstatically throwing pity like rice grains at a wedding. But despite what anyone says or thinks about the way she lives her life and how she loves in her relationships, she seems to have a pretty good head on her shoulders (insanely perfect hair aside) these days.

What advice would you give your younger self?

The full interview is on-stands in Glamour on August 6th.
