Jennifer Aniston said the Friends cast is “working on something” together—but don’t call it a reboot
“Is there going to be a reunion?” That’s the question that has been on every Friends fan’s mind since the show went off the air in 2004. And it’s the question Ellen DeGeneres asks Friends star Jennifer Aniston each time she appears on The Ellen Show. But every time Aniston is faced with that burning question, she makes it clear that a reunion/reboot/revival is not going to happen. However, the cast of Friends may be working on something else together…
Aniston appeared on the show as a surprise guest for Charlie Puth. She sat perched on Puth’s chair and replied, “Like a reboot of the show?” She then, again, delivered the crushing blow: “No.”
"Listen, we would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is, she continued. “So, we’re just trying. We’re working on something."
It’s not a lot—but Aniston’s words are enough to give us a tiny sliver of hope that something Friends-related may return to the airwaves at some point in the near future. (And that Charlie Puth may be involved.)
When Ellen pressed Aniston for more information—specifically, whether the gang is working on a movie—Aniston wavered a bit before landing on, “No, we don’t know. I don’t know yet,” adding that she doesn’t want to lead anyone on.
Ellen brought up the fact that something must currently be in the works because Aniston recently got together with her old castmates. In fact, her first-ever Instagram post on October 15th was a group pic of herself at dinner with Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Courtney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer.
Surely they can’t just be ~hanging out.~ There must have been an ulterior motive for their reunion.
“We did that because we miss each other and we all happened to be in the same part of the world,” Aniston said before Puth cut in, “Sounds like, to me, there’s something in the works.”
We agree, Charlie. Aniston can’t hide it. Something is definitely in the works.
