Jay Z and Beyoncé majorly helped protestors like it was NBD, says activist
We try not to give into hero worship, but this is pretty awesome.
According to a series of tweets from dream hampton — award-winning filmmaker, writer, and social activist — her buds Jay Z and Beyoncé played an integral role in last month’s Baltimore protests, donating “tens of thousands in minutes” to cover bail fees for arrested citizens.
hampton, who notes that the intensely private Carters will probably not be happy with her Twitter blast, says she was prompted by the realization that Black protesters are being reprimanded financially by the city of Baltimore. (See: The $500,000 bail set for a Baltimore teen who turned himself in after breaking a police car window versus the $250,000 to $350,000 bail set for the six officers charged with Freddie Gray’s death). hampton goes on to say that despite claims to the contrary, Jay and Bey have consistently helped out since the Black Lives Matter movement took flight last year, adding that their contributions are “too much to list.”
As Complex predicted, hampton has since deleted the tweets, but the Internet never forgets. Here’s what she had to say about the seemingly bottomless generosity of one of America’s favorite couples.
If all this is true (which we would like to believe it is) our hearts are pretty warmed and there is certainly something to be said for humility. Jay and Bey, you keep on amazing us.
