Jason Bateman’s new Netflix family drama is like “Arrested Development” meets “Breaking Bad”

Things get ugly quickly in a teaser trailer for Ozark, a new Netflix family drama that centers on the seemingly ordinary Byrde family — husband Marty (Jason Bateman) and wife Wendy (Laura Linney), and their teenage children Charlotte (Sofia Hublitz) and Jonah (Skylar Gaertner) — but ordinary they are not.

Papa Byrde is the top money launderer for the second largest drug cartel in Mexico and from the sound of it, he’s trying to skip town.

"Hypothetically, scale of one to 10, how difficult would it be for someone to disappear, family of four," Marty asks.

And from the looks of it, he’s brought his family into this mess directly, as it appears they’re helping out with the business. There’s also a lot of violence, fire, disparity, some out-of-this-world acting from Bateman and Linney, but we knew that was coming — all to the tune of Kanye West’s “Wolves,” which has to be significant, right?

Oh, and of course there’s all the money, making us wonder if this is the source of Arrested Development‘s banana stand funds…

Yeah, it’s official: Michael Bluth is totally breaking bad, which we’re surprised to see, but we’re so here for this — so we’ll definitely be watching Ozark when it debuts in July.
