We have more pics of Jared Leto’s Joker, and they’re wicked

It’s been a while since we last checked in on the progress of Suicide Squad. The David Ayer movie was shot this summer, and includes a ton of our favorite famous people playing a bunch of D.C. Comics baddies. The baddest one of all might be The Joker, and from what we’ve seen of Jared Leto’s complete transformation into the green-haired, cackling villain, his portrayal is going to be INTENSE. Now we’ve got a few more pictures of him in the full Joker getup, and whoa.
Suicide Squad won’t open until next year (which right now seems so far away) and we’ve gotten a few glimpses at The Joker so far. But many of the images have been quick in the trailer, or leaked from on set, so they’re blurry and really far away and it’s hard to tell anything. WELL, it looks like that won’t be the case for long, because Empire magazine is doing a whole feature on Suicide Squad, and The Joker is front and center on the cover. Jordan Catalano, is that you??
Though the picture is simple, there’s a whole lot going on here. Where do we even begin? The purple (faux) animal skin trench coat. The matching purple cane. The fact that the Joker appears to be wearing sweatpants that say ARKHAM on the side. The tattoo on his chest that appears to be a mouth with teeth, so it looks like he’s already laughing at us.
The images inside the magazine tease a little bit more of the story, and reveal that we’re going to see Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn before she became Harley Quinn. At first, she was Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel, a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum who falls for The Joker. From the behind-the-scenes images, it looks like we’re going to see that whole story play out, and witness her change from doctor to super-villain.
There are a few more pictures in December’s issue of Empire, including Cara Delevingne as Enchantress. The mag’s being mailed out to subscribers right now, and will hit newsstands soon. In the meantime, these pictures will have to hold us over until Suicide Squad’s release on August 5th, 2016.
