Our girl Janet Jackson is up for one of the very greatest music honors
Talk about a productive week! Not even seven days after the release of Unbreakable, her first album in seven years, Janet Jackson has been nominated for the 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She’s joined by other first-time nominees, Chicago, Chaka Khan, Cheap Trick, The Cars, The J.B.’s, Steve Miller, and Los Lobos.
Competition may be stiff, but Jackson is unique among the 15 nominees. With a solo career spanning over 30 years, Jackson has sold over 160 million records worldwide, and has had 27 top-10 hits on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, 10 of which were number No.1’s. I mean, woah.
In addition to her industry success and legendary status, Janet is also the only artist among the nominees who has released an album this year. Save for NWA’s biopic, Straight Outta Compton, Janet’s album release definitely puts her on the front burner.
Listen, if it were up to us, we’d have Janet, Nine Inch Nails, the Smiths, and Chaka Khan inducted right this minute. Lucky for us, we can inch closer to making our Hall of Fame dreams come true by casting our vote on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s website. The top five artists selected by the public will later comprise a “fans’ ballot” that will be tallied with other votes from an international voting body.
Inductees will be announced in December, but the actual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony goes down in April.
Check out the full list of talented and deserving nominees below, and don’t forget to cast your vote! Janet, we’re voting for you.
