Janelle Monáe’s NASA-themed photoshoot shows her blossoming into a space queen
With all the ruckus going on in our political sphere, you may not have gotten the memo that we have a new space queen. Yes, that’s right. We have a space queen, and you may have heard her name before. Earthling, singer, and now actress, Janelle Monáe, has just claimed the space throne and we have photos to prove it.
Monáe stars in Hidden Figures, a film about the team of black women behind NASA’s first successful space mission. Now, thanks to Cosmopolitan, Monáe also stars in a space-themed photoshoot that will appear in the magazine’s February 2017 issue.
Let’s just say Monáe’s photos are out of the world.

Monáe was styled completely by king of the cover girls, Max Abadian. Abadian has styled the likes of Liv Tyler for InStyle, Rita Ora for Cosmopolitan, and Dakota Fanning for Elle, to name a small fraction.
And now Monáe will join the ranks of Cosmo cover girls as she takes the throne somewhere beyond the stratosphere.

In Hidden Figures, Monáe plays Mary Jackson, a mathematician who in 1958 became NASA’s first black female aerospace engineer. After reaching the highest level of engineering she could, Jackson changed positions to become an administrator in the Equal Opportunity Specialist field, where she worked to promote NASA’s hiring of female engineers, mathematicians, and scientists.
