Janeane Garofalo Makes a (Hilarious) Argument for Pubic Hair

Your hair down there? Keep it. That’s the advice that Janeane Garofalo doled out during a set for UCB Comedy Theatre’s stand-up special collection “A Night at Whiplash.”

“Eighty percent of women under the age of 35 … have no thatch on their maidenhead,” the 49-year-old comic actress announced in her set.

“I bring it up to discuss with the 80 percent of you,” she continued. “For anyone who does pander, and it is pandering, I’m very sorry. Much like heels and a thong. You should be hirsute.”

Why? Well according to Garofalo, pubic hair serves as much of a purpose as other important patches of hair on your face and body. Like, say, your eyebrows.

“You need it. You need it. It’s like your eyebrows but different,” she explained.

“If you didn’t have eyebrows, you’d have conjunctivitis 24-7-365, yes?” Garofalo continued. “Extrapolate from there. It helps you. It helps you on your journey.”

Garofalo then compared lady parts to a familiar kitchen appliance.

“It’s like a self-cleaning oven. And I’m so sorry. But it’s part of it,” she finished.

Garofalo isn’t the only celebrity to weigh in on the subject lately. Cameron Diaz agrees with Garofalo’s assessment in the pubic hair debate, as she wrote in her “Body Book,” published in January.

“The idea that vaginas are preferable in a hairless state is a pretty recent phenomenon, and all fads change, people,” Diaz wrote. “Twenty years from now, you will still want to be presenting it to someone special, and it would be nice to let him or her unwrap it like the gift that it is.”

Later, Diaz expanded on her comments to Metro:

“I didn’t say what I prefer, I just said pubic hair has a purpose,” Diaz tsaid.. “You can do what you want with it, I don’t care. You can shave it off every day, wax it off every day, turn it into a bonsai. I don’t care.”

“I just said consider maybe not removing it permanently and forever with laser treatment,” she added. “Forever is forever and when we make those choices for our body we have to live with them forever.”

Something to consider, ladies.
