We have some pretty big ‘Jane The Virgin’ news

Unless you’re new to TV or the Internet, you’ve probably heard about Jane The Virgin, whose sophomore season premieres Oct. 12 on The CW. Hugely popular and hilarious, Jane stars our fave Gina Rodriguez as the titular character who becomes pregnant after being artificially inseminated – by accident.

And now, those of us who haven’t seen the first season (or could use a refresher) can plan a binge weekend ASAP, because it’s coming to Netflix! Cue happy-dance music!

Season one of Jane will be available starting Oct. 12 – the same day as the season-two premiere. Along with it, Netflix has also acquired the rights to Zoo, which follows a series of violent animal attacks taking place worldwide, and Colony, a show whose premise I read but can’t remember because I’m still busy swooning over one of its stars, Josh Holloway of Lost fame. And that’s enough for me to tune in.

Rodriguez, who won a Golden Globe earlier this year for her portrayal as Jane, seems just as excited as we are about Jane The Virgin coming to Netflix, taking to Twitter to celebrate with fans of the show.

According to Variety, this could be a huge ingredient in widening Jane’s audience considering Netflix’s successful history of gaining the rights to shows in the past. For example, the 2013 premiere episode of Breaking Bad‘s final season saw its audience double when compared to the penultimate season’s premiere after Netflix began offering the show to stream. Now that’s power.

The acquisition of Jane, Zoo, and Colony comes not long after that of How to Get Away with Murder on Sept. 18 – a very smart move indeed, given Murder’s recent buzz after Viola Davis’ historical Emmy win for her portrayal in its lead role.

Now excuse us while we go set our DVRs for Jane‘s season-two premiere and find a way to pass the time before Oct. 12!
