Here’s a look at the totally modern “Jane Eyre” graphic novel

One of the women who brought Crazy Ex-Girlfriend to life is now bringing Jane Eyre back to life, but not in the way you’d expect.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend co-creator Aline Brosh McKenna has turned Jane Eyre into a graphic novel, simply titled Jane.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jane takes place in “contemporary New York City, where Jane — now an art student, who’s come to the city to study — has to decide whether or not she can trust the man she’s fallen in love with…who just so happens to have a dark secret.”

It’s a thoroughly modern take on the classic Charlotte Brontë novel. In the several pages that were shared with The Hollywood Reporter, a frazzled Jane rides the New York subway system to her new top-secret job where she is told she can’t Tweet, Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat about anything she sees or hears on the job.

So, sub out Thornfield for a New York skyscraper and add social media?

Apparently, Jane was supposed to be a modern-day film remake but ended up as a graphic novel instead. McKenna is the co-creator of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and also wrote the screenplay for The Devil Wears Prada, so we think Brontë’s comic book adaption is in good hands.
