Jamie Lynn Spears Reveals Deep Insecurities on New Reality TV Show: “I Struggle With Self-Esteem All the Time”

The younger sister of Britney Spears is already breaking down her ego on 'Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.'

Jamie Lynn Spears, younger sister of pop singing icon Britney Spears, showed a whole new side of herself during the premier of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test on Jan. 4, 2023. The reality TV show on Fox aims to put the strength, courage, and ego of celebrities to the test, and 31-year old Jamie Lynn is already proving how exposed she felt during filming.

It’s not exactly news that the Zoey 101 star grew up in the shadow of her bombshell older sister, but the star’s own words hit differently as she readied herself to take on some of the toughest challenges humans face during military training.

“Growing up, my sister became famous, worldwide famous, when I was very young,” she revealed in the opening episode.

“I’m so proud of her [Britney], [I] love her to death, but…sometimes I feel like I don’t really have anything for myself,” Spears added.

Britney has hinted at some of her younger sister’s struggles in her latest posts on Instagram. “Jamie Lynn, you need to feel self-worth being my sister !!!” Britney stated in a followup post to one she shared on her birthday.

That post in particular congratulated Jamie Lynn on “being so brave, inspiring, and showing guts and glory in your show 🎉 !!!”

Jamie Lynn and Britney have had an interesting relationship over the past few decades. There have been total highs of support from both sisters, as well as lows, especially in light of Jamie Lynn’s participation as a trustee during the ‘Toxic’ singer’s 13-year conservatorship.

Britney has been vocal about the lack of support she received from her family during that time, especially from her father, who was the main appointee of her finances and decision-making.

So it may not be surprising that Jamie Lynn, mother of two, who currently lives in her home state of Louisiana, admitted on the show that she struggles with self-esteem “all the time.”

Previous snippets from Special Forces highlighted how the former teen star is especially using this experience to try and test her boundaries. During a post-show recap called The Debrief, the singer and actress described how cast members were put into compromising positions, including told to remove their clothing in front of each other while changing into new uniforms.

And while Britney has admitted that she doesn’t feel close with her family, her younger sister told Page Six that she “found a new family in her castmates.”

It’s left to be said as to what lessons Jamie Lynn will learn from her Special Forces experiences, as well as if and how Britney will react to any particular mentions that may come out in future episodes. For now, it’s a chance to see how the 16- celebrities — including Real Housewife Kenya Moore and Bachelorette Hannah Brown — take on extreme situations, makeup-less, egoless, and everything in between.
