Jamie Lynn Sigler chopped her hair into a bob for this emotional reason
So many of us, including celebrities, have been taking hair transformations into our own hands during quarantine. Sarah Michelle Gellar went pink, Hilary Duff went blue, and Taylor Swift opted for both colors in her blond hair. Uma Thurman gave her daughter, Maya Hawke, a haircut, and Miley Cyrus took the scissors to her own bangs. We adore these DIY changes as a way to make staying at home more bearable, but Jamie Lynn Sigler just chopped off her signature long hair for an even more important reason.
The actress, who is best known for playing Tony’s daughter, Meadow, on The Sopranos, posted pictures of her dramatic bob haircut on Instagram for her 39th birthday on May 15th.
“That’s 2 years of physical, emotional, and spiritual growth that I cut off right there on my bday,” Sigler captioned her post.
In the picture, she’s holding the long braid of her hair that has been cut. It’s not entirely clear if she chopped off her hair herself, or if stylist Riawna Capri did the deed. Sigler thanked her “sis” Capri in the caption, but it’s possible she just encouraged or helped her do it at home.
Sigler donated her hair to the BeYOUtiful Foundation, a nonprofit organization that connects salons and stylists to cancer survivors to provide styling education and real-hair wigs for women who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy. Capri is the co-founder of the organization. If you want your quaran-cut to go to this good cause, you can check out the instructions here.
Chemotherapy can also be part of a treatment for multiple sclerosis, which Sigler was diagnosed with when she was 20 years old. She hasn’t said if she has received chemotherapy medications for her own treatment, but fellow survivor Selma Blair opened up about losing her hair due to chemo for MS.
No matter what, it’s clear that Sigler’s haircut has been an emotional one. She thanked everyone who helped her celebrate her birthday with FaceTime calls, sending flowers, and more, saying, “It’s nice to feel grateful during times like these.” Stars like Jenna Dewan, Vanessa Lachey, and Haylie Duff sent their love in comments on her post.
For so many reasons, our hair journeys trigger all kinds of emotions. We love how Sigler opened up about how the change is making her feel and, even more so, we applaud her for using the opportunity to donate her hair to those in need. We can’t think of a better reason for a bob.
