A conservative TV anchor resigned after threatening Parkland survivor David Hogg with violence
Nearly two months after the Parkland shooting, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students are continuing to push lawmakers to protect their lives. But sadly, not everyone agrees with their mission.
Conservative TV host Jamie Allman on Sinclair Broadcasting in St. Louis drew backlash after he tweeted about wanting to assault prominent Parkland student activist David Hogg with a “hot poker,” and it was announced yesterday, April 9th, that Allman has resigned.
Allman’s tweet said, “I’ve been hanging out getting ready to ram a hot poker up David Hogg’s a** tomorrow. Busy working. Preparing.”
Advertisers began pulling sponsorships from Allman’s show shortly after his tweet, and Sinclair spokesperson Ronn Torossian told USA Today that Allman’s resignation has been accepted. The show, which previously aired on ABC-affiliate KDNL, has also been canceled.
Similarly, conservative Fox TV commentator Laura Ingraham faced criticism after she (a grown woman) teased Hogg over his college rejections. She later apologized, but only after Hogg inspired an ad boycott of her program.
Sinclair Broadcasting has also faced controversy for reading warnings on air about “fake news” on other news stations. They have also been known to fervently echo President Donald Trump’s views and perspectives.
Hogg, 17, was featured on Time Magazine in March alongside fellow student activist Emma Gonzalez and several other Parkland students. He has been interviewed by several major news outlets about gun reform and events following the shooting, and continues to face backlash from conservative pundits.

We commend David Hogg and all students like him who are currently fighting for common sense gun reform and safety for all, and we hope the adults of this world eventually follow suit.
